ABOUT PANGEA

About Us

OUR STORY & AFRICAN ART

Ian Unsworth, Pangea Sculpture’s founder, first saw animal sculptures being sold at the roadside whilst on a trip to Africa. He became fascinated with these fantastical sculptures and met with the artists and artisan’s for Sculpture Art and variety of other African Art. Ian bought a couple of pieces for himself and made arrangements to ship a container of these beautiful animal sculptures over to the UK to see if other people had the same reaction to them as he did. Naturally, people flocked to them and the entire lot sold within weeks.

Taking our name from the ancient supercontinent of Pangea, we have gone from strength-to-strength since forming in 2014, leading to the opening of our beautiful showroom in July 2016.

MEET THE TEAM

We pride ourselves on the 5 star service and product reviews we receive from our customers. We a close-knit team that believe wild animals should be allowed to roam wild and free without threat, but that their beauty and elegance should be available for all to see.

ISAAC CHOLOKA
My name is Isaac Choloka, I was born in Chegutu Township in Zimbabwe. I started sculpting stone after finishing my secondary school level in Chegutu. During those days I had already established my fame as a renowned artist through contemporary cartons. The love of stone carving started when I met my brother Wengai Chikenga and the late well known artists Lazarus Takawira. Sculpting is not about age, size, weight or height, it is about the effort one puts in the making and the final piece. My main subjects are human figures whose premise is symbolical of embedded love and feelings. I sculpt figure of any magnitude from any stone type though my favorite stone is springstone. My sculptures has been exhibited in many countries at exhibitions include Pfumvudza one man exhibition. My works work are available at Chitungwiza Art Centre in Harare.

I was born in 1970 in a town called Rusape in Zimbabwe. My father and my brother Solomon taught me how to carve stone. Joe Mutasa senior was a renowned artist in Zimbabwe who also helped and influence me, I got lot of inspiration from him. I am skilled in enhancing the quality and texture of stone by varying its texture and this is what makes my work unique. I am a family man married with children. I like to work on hard stones mostly spring stones among other type of hard stones. I once visited Germany for some exhibitions and workshops. My art products are being displayed worldwide and some in my workplace at Chitungwiza Arts Centre.

EDISON KANGADZA
I was born 11/01/82 in Chiweshe, Zimbabwe. I grew up in the village full of precious Opal stone. When I was doing primary education my brother was already sculpting through seeing and assisting him during spare time, I then developed an interest in sculpting. In 2001 I decided to work with my brother Clever, after a year of experience, I then started my own style similar to my brother. I mainly focus on women washing hair, birds and abstract pieces, using green opal, springstone and cobalt stone. My works have won me the 2017 NAMA Merit Award, the 3 dimension award an accolade indicative of my ability and potential. I moved to Harare for a better market but I still use my rural home workshop whenever I get time to visit my parents and family and take advantage of raw stones found on the backyard. I am currently working at Air Gallery along Airport Road in Harare.
